Our Patriot’s Journey

Sunday, April 11, 2010 --

I visited the memorial for the National Guard today with my husband and friends.  As we were getting ready to leave, I went to look at the boots by the flag and saw the picture of your son, Robert Bittiker.  I read the inscription on the back and took it home with me.  I have placed it in my garden under a big Magnolia tree on a bench with a statue that I have had for many years.

Every day when I sit on my back porch and look at that garden I will think of your son and his great sacrifice to our country.  May he rest in peace and the Good Lord give your family the strength to accept this.  I will keep him in my prayers always.  If we ever move, I will take it with us and let you know where it is.

We live in Magnolia Greens near the Cape Fear Bridge south of Wilmington.

Sincerely,
